VERUS
Made to Fit Hardwood Furniture
Because we design and build all Verus pieces in our own workshop, we offer a limitless range of bespoke options. That is, we don’t ask you to choose from a set of predetermined designs and sizes. Instead, we work with you to determine what your particular needs and preferences are, and then build to suit those. As Jack likes to say, "these aren’t blind buys on a wine list; our bottles never empty!” The reason for this approach is simple. We strive to build hardwood designs that will withstand trends that come and go, and will endure more than one lifetime of daily use. Some people buy antiques; our customers create their own.
And the name Verus? It’s a Latin word, meaning true, proper, or genuine. Because we only choose the best hardwood timber for our work, we have no need to use heavy stain finishes or hiding techniques, typical in factory-made furniture.
Our product range, Verus, is rather unique in the world of furniture.
“The thing that impressed us most about Form & Function is the quality of listening and the knowledge of the owners. They took the time to hear us out and informed and reassured us about the quality of the table we purchased. They made sure it would fit our needs and space and explained how it was made and why it would last forever (and it has).”

Designed to fit your needs and space.
Many people have a clear sense of their own personal design aesthetic, whether its modern minimalism, mid-20th century, coastal casual, rustic or any mix of these or other interior design approaches. But many of us have a hard time imagining how we will feel before we acquire new furnishings, though of course, we know once things are in place! And there is also the question of size and scale. Even the choice between whether a 71” sofa or an 80” is optimal can be a challenge!
We are in the fortunate position of being able to offer you the very extensive design skills of interior designer Susan Nemeth. She sees her role, quite rightly, as not to tell you what you need, but to help you edit your options according to your own personal preferences and, in many cases, to blend the old with the new. Susan has helped many of our customers over the years with her finely-tuned space-planning abilities. Whether it’s a matter of looking at your floorplan on paper or online, you can be assured of making the correct choice with any furniture decision. And for those of you who are nearby, in-home visits are always a great option.
Because we operate our own workshop for our Verus designs, Susan has an intimate understanding of furniture materials and construction, beyond her space planning abilities. There is also never any design fee for our customers. Susan welcomes any question from you, whether it is about something you see on our website here, or you need help with a room with a difficult layout.
“On the recommendation of a friend, we approached Susan to design a bed and dresser for an awkward room layout, where nothing else seemed to fit. The result was perfect! We were very impressed with how the pieces looked and functioned. The craftsmanship was amazing. Several years on, they are have stood the test of time and the children who use them.”

“If a hardwood tree takes 80 years to grow, we strive to make furniture from it that lasts at least as long.”
Our Vancouver Workshop
For over 30 years we have offered all of our hardwood furniture, mainly tables, chairs, bed frames, cabinets, mirrors, and bookcases, from our own Vancouver workshop. And we are fortunate to have a small core of passionate furniture makers, including a finisher who takes the raw wood pieces to a durable, wonderfully-tactile finish.
